Identify the allowance in use
OpenAI distinguishes API token prices from included subscription usage. Similar tasks can consume different amounts because of model choice, context, tools, caching and reasoning. Prompt length alone is not a reliable count of remaining tasks.
Options after a limit is reached
Wait for the recovery shown in your account, or check whether your plan supports additional credits. Review eligible products, balances, expiry and charging rules before purchase. Extra credits should not be assumed to reset every usage window.
API authentication is separate
API-key access follows API model availability and billing. A subscription upgrade does not automatically add API balance. Team and Enterprise users should also check administrator settings and contractual terms rather than applying individual-plan rules.
